ELLEN SPOTTS
Ellen lives with her husband and two children in San Clemente, California, a frequent subject of her landscape images.  Her passion for the outdoors began at an early age while backpacking with her family in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.  She furthered her love and understanding of the natural world while earning a geology degree from Occidental College.  Ellen was both a petroleum geologist and an environmental hydrogeologist.  Her geology career took her to remote places in Montana and Wyoming; places so wild and beautiful that a camera was always close at hand.  In 1995, she took a leave of absence from geology to study photography.  After graduating from the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, Montana, she began her life as a photographer.
 
Ellen began her photography career using film, and has now made the transition to digital capture.  She considers herself a traditional photographer, using the computer primarily as a tool to help her represent in print the feeling and appearance of the subject, whether it be a big-sky landscape or an abstract representation of the sea, at the time of capture.  “As a photographer, I travel the world with my camera, going to places that are accessible only by foot, to capture the moment, magic, and beauty of this great planet.  I chase storms in the mountains, explore light on our seas and hope, through my images, to inspire others to protect our natural world.”

Ellen’s limited edition photographic fine art color and black and white prints are widely collected and exhibited in some of the finest residences and successful businesses in the world.  Galleries in California and New York show her work.  Over the years, her work has been published in numerous books, periodicals, and commercial advertisements.  She also produces assignment photography and stock photo images for the advertising industry and architectural/real estate industries.
